THE INFINITE POWER OF YOUR REAL SELF (AMMACHI)

Ammachi:

Once you are established in the state of no-mind (where conceptual objective thoughts have ceased and the heart alone rules via pure spontaneous intuition moment by moment), no one can do anything to you unless you consciously let them do it.

You can allow something to happen or not to happen. Whether it happens or not, you remain a witness - completely untouched and unperturbed, ever established in the state of supreme detachment.

Suppose someone wants to harm you or even kill you. They cannot lift a finger against you if you do not permit it. As long as your sankalpa (resolve) is not there, nothing they can do can affect you. They will in some mysterious way always fail. Finally they might reach the conclusion that something, some divine power is protecting you. But that power is the infinite power of the Self (soul, infinite consciousness that is one's real Self); it is not some power that comes from outside.

The source of this power is within you. You become that infinite power. When you are egoless you are everything.

The entire universe is with an enlightened being. Even the animals, trees, mountains and rivers, and the sun and the moon and the stars are on the side of a Self-Realized soul - because in that state you are egoless.

When you bow down before all existence, in utter humility, the universe (existence) bows down to you and serves you. But remember, that you can also command them to turn against you, because either way you are not affected.

When there is no mind or ego, then you are one with the whole of existence, and the universe with all it's beings are your friends. No creature will perceive you as an enemy. And even an enemy would be your friend, would be one with you because your enemy is your own Self, though he or she would not be aware of this truth.

If, internally you are one with the enemy, strictly speaking, how then can he be your enemy? How could anyone or anything, sentient or insentient that actually exists within you as a part of your Self (infinite indivisible consciousness) harm you in any way? It is impossible. Nothing can happen to you once you drop your ego, unless you want it to happen.

The Rana of Mewar wanted to kill Mira Bai (very famous female saint). He sent a cup of poison to her saying that it was a special drink that had been prepared for her, along with a beautiful and sweetly worded letter of apology for all the cruelty that he had shown her.

Even though Mira knew that it was poison she nevertheless accepted the cup and drank from it. But nothing happened. The Rana tried to kill her by several other means, but all his attempts were in vain. As for Mira, she remained blissful and unperturbed throughout. How was this possible? Because she was egoless. She was beyond mind (she had ceased thinking conceptually, i.e. 'I' and 'you, 'mine' and 'yours', she saw only the same consciousness in all existence instead of separate forms and objects).

She had become one with all of creation. She had become one with the infinite consciousness (that is the source substance of all existence). She was not even aware of her own body. And when you do not have a body, how can you be killed? The whole creation is on your side, protecting you. How then, can any poison affect you? How can any part of creation harm you in any way?

It can touch you only if it has your permission to do so. Only if you say yes (as Jesus said yes to the crucifixion, and as Guru Tegh Bahadur voluntarily said yes to 3 days of torture leading to the death of his body - both to set an example for a higher cause), will it affect you. If you say no, it turns around and moves away. Once you reach that highest state, nothing happens, even if the body is tortured and destroyed, because you are not the body, you are the Self (infinite consciousness).

The entire universe is your body. Each part of creation is part of your universal body. When all is ONE, how can the part possibly harm the whole? How can the hand unconsciously hurt the eye? They may look different and their functions may be different, but they are one with the whole body.

When you realize your Oneness with the Self, the entire creation becomes your faithful servant. You are the master and everything in Nature is awaiting your orders. When all of Nature fully supports you, how can anything turn against you unless you really want it to? Nature will do whatever you command. If you say, "No, don't do it," - nothing can happen. When you in the right state of mind (no minds via no conceptual or objective thoughts since they give rise to the world illusion and hide the perception of the consciousness which is the substratum of reality), nothing can harm you. Self-realization is the perfect state of existence.

Once you are realized, you become the cosmic Mind. All Minds are yours. You become the sole controller of all minds, not only of human minds but of the entire cosmic Mind. This means that you hold the reins of every single mind in your hand. You have become everybody. Their bodies may be different, but you are abiding within each body (since your consciousness has expanded beyond the limitations of your mind/body/ego shell).

Your antagonist is nothing but you, yourself in another wrapper. It is just like candies of the same flavor enclosed in different wrappers. The wrappers are of many different colors. They may be blue, green, red or yellow. The candies may think "I am blue, I am green" and so forth. But what is inside? The same sweets with the same flavor made of the same ingredients.

Ammachi once said "All your thoughts and actions pass through Amma."

The following are a couple of examples of the invincibility of a Self-realized soul:

THE RABID DOG

Ammachi once put Her hands into the mouth of a rabid dog who had been one of her early companions when she used to live out in the open (her brother had thrown her out of her home during this period). Ammachi loved the dog very much, and when she saw that he had been chained to a tree, she went up to him and expressed her love by embracing him, and kissing his face. She tried to feed the dog, and as she did so, she put her hand into his mouth.

Those who happened to be there and saw what was happening were extremely shocked because Ammachi's hand was covered with the dog's saliva, which was highly infectious. They were all extremely worried and suggested that Ammachi take injections against rabies as a precaution. But Ammachi just smiled and replied "Nothing will happen, don't worry." And of course, nothing happened.

THE ASSASSIN (one of many attempts upon her life)

When the Holy Mother first manifested her immersion in God, a group of troublemakers took it upon themselves to ruin her reputation and prove her to be a fraud. Failing to do so the following is one of their attempts to finally finish her through the hands of an assassin:

At this time the miscreants launched their most bold and macabre plan of all. They hired an assassin to enter the temple and stab the Mother to death during the Bhava Darshan (blessing period). Concealing a knife under his clothes, he entered the temple. Seeing him the Mother beamed a benign smile at him and continued receiving the devotees.

Her smile had a strangely soothing effect on him. Coming to his senses and realizing his grave mistake, he fell at the Mother's feet begging Her forgiveness. When he left the temple he was a changed man. Noticing the startling change which had come over him, his villainous comrades asked him whether he too had been mesmerized by the Holy Mother. He merely smiled at them and thenceforth became an ardent devotee of the Mother.

(Ammachi is a living saint from S. India who visits the US once or twice per year).
